Hospitality Team

We have a great relationship with a local bakery that allows us to pick up their leftover bread on Saturday evenings. This enables Meadowland to provide pastries, bagels, and bread, in addition to other refreshments for everyone after the Sunday service. This bread also allows Meadowland to offer families quality bagels and bread products for their personal use during the week totally free-of-charge with no strings attached. In addition to picking up bread Saturday evening, this team also sets up our refreshment area prior to the service Sunday morning, creating a welcoming environment for everyone at Meadowland to be able to take time to connect with one another after the service, and then takes it down to be used the following week!If you are interested in how you can help out on this team, please feel free to drop Adam Reardon an email by clicking this link!

Worship Team

What is worship? It is an outward expression, an offering up of our talents, gifts and resources for God's glory. It is not just something that happens on Sunday morning, but rather something we do daily as we live out our faith in Christ. If you are interested in learning more about our worship team at Meadowland, please drop John Barnett a note - you can email him here!

Tinsel was originally a metallic garland for Christmas decoration. It was invented in Nuremberg Germany in 1610 when they shredded silver that was flexible enough to be hung on Christmas trees, walls, ceilings and lamp stands. Today tinsel is made typically from plastic and easily disposable. Tinsel is a decorative ascent the adds a nice touch to our holiday celebration, but it is not intended to be the focus. During the month of December we are as a church going to see beyond the trappings of Christmas to some the core biblical concepts at the heart of Christianity. We are going to take a deeper long at the meaning of faith, grace, and redemption Regardless of where you are on your spiritual journey, we would like to invite you to come join us this Sunday at 10:00AM in the Johnsburg High School [MAP]

We hope you find our website helpful, and if you have any questions or would like more information about our ministry, call the church office at (815) 363-7800 or click HERE to email us a note.

Have a great day, and we look forward to seeing you Sunday!

The story of Meadowland church is only four years old, and is birthed out of a dream for a church where people can find genuine relationships, love, hope, forgiveness and encouragement while learning more about God, His Word, and His plan for their lives. Being a part of this new work was a huge step of faith for several families, and God has been incredibility faithful this past four years since the launch of Meadowland.

In March of 2007, on our 4th anniversary, our elder board unanimously approved our church moving forward with an
Extreme Steps capital stewardship ministry expansion campaign we are calling, Journey of Faith. Journey of Faith is a movement within our local church body that will enable us to step out in faith and move forward together as a church family into the next four years. It is an opportunity for us to dream together and participate with God working to fulfill His plan to Establish and Grow Lasting Relationships in Christ Jesus in our communities and in our world!

This is such an exciting time for us as a new young church, and we would like to invite you to come be a part of what God is doing in and through this local body of Christ at Meadowland. Come join us on a Journey of Faith as we fulfill God's plan for us in our communities, you will not want to miss this awesome experience to be a part of what God is doing!

If you have any questions about Journey of Faith, please feel free to contact me or any member of our elder board. May God bless you as you seek His will, and remember, YOU MATTER TO GOD!

The Meadowland Story - About Meadowland

In May of 2002, having finished seminary and helping plant Northbridge Church in Antioch, our founding pastor Richard Wollard and his family sold their house, and headed west to McHenry County with their 4 girls, with a dream to see a new church started where people could learn more about God and the Bible while experiencing genuine relationships, acceptance, love, hope, forgiveness and encouragement.

On Easter of 2003, Meadowland Community Church held its very first public service in the Johnsburg High School. 140 people came out to visit that first Sunday, and God has continued to add to our numbers, raising up others to be a part of this new work.

The vision at Meadowland is to be a church that glorifies God by establishing and growing lasting relationships in Christ Jesus. That vision has been the foundation of Meadowland Church, and continues to this day, as God accomplishes His plans in us and through us. If you have any questions or comments, you can call the church office at (815) 363-7800 or simply email us a note. God bless you, and have a great day!

God's Gals - Women's Ministry

God's Gals gather to equip and encourage the women of Meadowland to grow and mature in their relationship with Christ and each other. To live and share with others the ABUNDANT LIFE offered by the Lord.

John 10:10 "...I have come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly."

Scripture teaches this as well. We are told in Titus 2:3 that the older are to teach the younger. That does not necessarily mean "old" ladies, although it could. It means those who have experienced it and seen God's grace through certain events in their lives. We need mentors, from sharing domestic ideas of homemaking, to child rearing, to the spiritual aspects of life.

We will strive to bring together women of all ages and stages of life for fellowship, encouragement and love for one another. To provide a positive place for women to develop in their relationship with the Lord and each other.
"Encourage one another and build each other up..." 1 Thess. 5:11

So go to the church calendar and see whats coming up! Join us and bring a friend!

Blessings,

God's Gals Team

How We Got Our Name - Our Name

Some of the first recorded settlers in this area were Nicholas Frett, Nicholas Adams and Jacob Schmitt, who arrived on August 2, 1841. All three of these families were from the Eifel Region in Germany, an area that at the time was ruled by Prussia, a financially poor country in spite of heavy taxation. The land there was in poor condition for farming, and these reasons led to the immigration of these families as well as many others in the years to come.

The following paragraphs are excerpts from a Nicholas Frett letter written soon after they arrived to tell the family and friends left back in Germany what they found in their new home:

We left our wives and children in the City of Chicago and the three of us went out in the country to look for an opportunity, and we found it thirty English miles from Chicago near the Village of McHenry, where there is an English free school, and a house of correction.

The Village is only three English miles distant from us. There I bought a farm of 160 acres, which according to the German measures, makes 200 morgen at $2.50 per acre, in German money, six marks. The land lies in a good situation and also a beautiful neighborhood.

Also, we have very fine meadowland upon which the grass is so high it reaches above my head. This will perhaps seem unbelievable to you, but it is true. I would not have believed it myself had I not seen it. One can make as much hay as he wants and where he wishes without paying for it...

We no longer long for Germany. Every day we thank the Lord that he has brought us, so to speak, out of slavery into paradise. This also I wish from my heart for my dear friends, sisters, and brothers who continue to live in Germany as if under lions and dragons, fearing every moment to be devoured by them.

It was in the hearts and eyes of these early settlers and what they saw in this community that lead us to the church name. It was the meadowland that attracted these early sojourners to the area, delivering them from their slavery into paradise.

In much the same way, it is our prayer that Meadowland Community Church will attract today's sojourners into a community where friends and family can grow in their faith in Jesus Christ, and be equipped and sent out to help others find the hope and new life that is available only through Him.

We recognize that all people, having been created in the image of God, are on a spiritual journey. It is the journey that is exciting and the journey that we enjoy doing together. Regardless of where you are on your journey, we would like to invite you to come check out Meadowland.

What We Believe - Beliefs

The Bible
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (Isaiah 8:20; 2Ti 3:16-17; Matthew 5:18; John 17:17, 20:31; Romans 15:4; 2Peter 1:19-21)

The Trinity
We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, that these are equal in every divine perfection, and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption. (Genesis 1:26; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1-14, 18, 17:1-5; 2Corinthians 13:14; 1Peter 1:1; 1 John 5:7)

God the Father
We believe in God, the Father, an infinite personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of each person, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Matthew 23:9; Luke 10:20-21; John 6:27; 1Corinthians 8:6; 1Timothy 1-2, 2:5-6; 1Peter 1:3)

Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and personal visible return to earth. (Mathew 1:20-21; Romans 8:34; 2Corinthians 5:21; Revelation 5:9)

The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ, and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide. (John 16:5-15; John 20:21-22; Romans 8:1-17)

Regeneration
We believe that all people are sinners by nature and by choice and are, therefore, under condemnation. We believe that those who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit. (John 1:12-13; Ephesians 2:1-10; Genesis 3; Isaiah 59:2; Romans 5:12)

The Church
We believe in the universal church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible confession of faith, and associated for worship, work and fellowship. We believe that God has laid upon the members of the local church the primary task of giving the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world. (Matthew 28:19-20; Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:22, 4:15-16; Colossians 1:18)

Christian Conduct
We believe that Christians should live for the glory of God and the well-being of others; that their conduct should be blameless before the world; that they should be faithful stewards of their possessions; and that they should seek to realize for themselves and others the full stature of maturity in Christ. (1Corinthians 3:16-17, 8:9-13; 2Corinthians 9:6-13; Galatians 5:19-26; Ephesians 4:1-3, 5:3-5, James 3:5-8)

The Ordinances
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church: baptism and the Lord's Supper. We believe that Christian baptism is immersion of a believer in water into the name of the triune God. We believe that the Lord's Supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of His death. We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Matthew 26:26-29, 28:18-20; Mark 14:22-25, Acts 2:38-42, 8:36-39; Romans 6:1-11, 1Corinthians 10:16-17, 11:23-26)

Religious Liberty
We believe that every human being has direct relations with God, and is responsible to God alone in all matters of faith; that each church is independent and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority; that therefore Church and State must be kept separate as having different functions, each fulfilling its duties free from dictation or patronage of the other. (Acts 5:29, 20:28-32; Romans 14:7-9, 11-12; 1Corinthians 3:16; Colossians 1:18; 1Timothy 2:5)

Church Cooperation
We believe that the local church can best promote the cause of Jesus Christ by cooperating with one another in a denominational organization. Such an organization, whether a regional or district conference, exists and functions by the will of the churches. Cooperation in a conference is voluntary and may be terminated at any time. Churches may likewise cooperate with interdenominational fellowships on a voluntary basis. (1Corinthians 8:9-13, 16:13-16; Galatians 5:22-26; Ephesians 4:1-3; James 3:5-8)

The Last Things
We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of His kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, the eternal felicity of the righteous, and the endless suffering of the wicked. (Matthew 25:31-46; John 3:16-21; Acts 9:1-11; 1Thessalonians 4:14, 16; Hebrews 10:28-31; Revelation 20:14-15, 22:7)

Life Together Groups

It is difficult to get to know anyone well, if we only see them for a few brief moments on Sunday mornings. Very rarely do any of us know anyone any better when we leave a Sunday morning service then when we arrived. Small groups provide an ideal context for genuine friendships, spiritual growth, and meaningful community; so that is why our Life Together Groups exist.

Small groups are vitally important to us at Meadowland and it is our desire to see every person at Meadowland plugged into a small group, with at least one small group in every neighborhood in our community!

Each of our small groups are designed to meet people right where they are on their spiritual journeys. So regardless of age or your marital status, whether you are seeking answers to questions about God and the Bible, or you have been following Christ for a long time, you will benefit from being connected to a small group.

For more information about Meadowland's Life Together Small Group ministry, call the church office at (815) 363-7800, or email us a note here. To find a small group or ministry team at Meadowland, simply click the "Find a Group'" link above. If you are looking specifically for a LifeTogether/Bible Study group, click on the "List of Small Groups" link below.

Greeters & Ushers
Making everyone who comes through the doors on Sunday mornings feel welcome is a high priority for us at Meadowland! Our greeters seek to create a friendly, welcoming environment for people, and to help new people feel at ease and at home, even if they have never been to church before that morning. Our greeters make themselves available to answer questions, direct people to important features at Meadowland (like the auditorium, bathrooms, and children's ministry areas), and make information about Meadowland easy to find. Ushers help people with special needs, collect offering, and assist people if they need help with something. If you are a friendly person, who likes to smile, and can shake people's hands, and are interested in being a part of this team, take a moment to log in to our website and the 1st Impression Group, or simply click this link!

Sr. High Student Ministry

Meadowland's ministry to high school students starts with a small group that meets at the home of Mike & Erin Hahn on Thursday nights from 7:00-8:00pm. Cynthia Johnston is also an adult leader for this group. Senior high students meet as a small group because it creates a safe, fun environment to make friends you can share your life with, learn important lessons about life and faith, and grow together with others in community. The leaders strive to foster an environment that provides personal, powerful, and practical Christ-centered teaching and relationships.

The group also does regular events, service projects, and retreats and conferences. If you would like to know more about our Sr. High Group, or how you can be involved as a student or adult leader, contact the Meadowland office and ask for Associate Pastor Kirk Knudsen at (815) 363-7800 or drop us a note!

Set-Up Team

Our setup team lays the foundation for what happens each Sunday morning as they unload the trailer and setup the various areas of ministry for the Sunday morning worship service. The work of this team is vital to the Worship Service, Children's Ministry, 1st Impressions, Refreshments, and the high school building. It is critically important to have these men and women serve by transforming the Johnsburg High School into a place where people of all ages are able to worship, learn, and connect with God and one another.

The best way to see if Meadowland is a good fit for you and to see where you might best get connected, is to come be our guest this Sunday!

We know you will enjoy our casual atmosphere, live contemporary music, and relevant messages from the Bible. Infants and toddlers can go immediately to their classrooms. Kids preschool through 5th grade are invited to join their parents for the music portion of our service, and then will be invited to go back to their classrooms where they will have a fantastic time learning about God and the Bible in a fun relevant way for their age.

Uplifting music and singing, practical video moments, relevant teaching, and genuine relationships are all a part of what makes our church a special place to be. Stop by and give us an opportunity to get to know you!
